Where is the money Vera Bates got from John Bates in the bribery and from Carlisle from selling the story about Mary? Why didn't John Bates get this money as Vera had the money before she died and they were still legally married
Vera could've very well spent most of it before she killed herself

I do not think she spent it ALL in that short of time. Bates would have inherited anything and everything that was Vera's so whatever was left, he would have gotten. Perhaps he used it to help pay for the lawyer. I do not think Vera made a will so he would not get anything because I believe her committing suicide was a spur of the moment decision when she realized there was nothing else left to do to get back at him. She planned that he would never live to spend it anyway. Perhaps that is one of the things he was attending to in York, her assets may have been frozen when her death was a suspected murder? But Bates does definitely have the unexpected money from his mother's estate and the money off the rent of her house. Actually, at one time, it was all in Anna's name. If it is enough for them to ever buy a small hotel, time may tell. I was hoping they could be part owners in the Grantham Arms and be the proprietors.
