So, with the preview and the promo photos for episode 8 there seems to be much drama. I think it looks like the most exciting episode in a while with Mary scolding Henry, Edith calling Mary a bitch and Tom shouting at... someone (probably Mary, I tihnk it's in the Downton agent's office). This episode seems to intertwine Mary and Edith's lives more than in any previous episode so, armed with the preview and promo photos, what's happening? What's with all the yelling!?
(We already have a post for Thomas, which is the most troubling case downstairs at the moment, which is why I thought lets keep this thread for upstairs predictions).
Perhaps Mary tricks it out of Tom, prodding him like she prodded Anna in 6x06, or if he's shouting at her such as about ruining things like her relationship with Talbot he might talk before he thinks and let it slip. Unless Mary overhears him talking to Edith or someone else about Marigold, but I have a feeling that's unlikely.
Here are 11 quotes that are apparently said in episode 8. Who do you think said these or who do you think they are to/ about?
I don't think they tell us a huge lot more about the episode that isn't already mentioned above, except 1). which, I think shows that Patmore's B&B is a brothel (very scandalous brouhaha) and 10). which expanded my vocabulary.
1). “What an unlikely bawdy house madam.”
2). “If you expect a lot, you get a lot.”
3).“A genuine, copper-bottomed Marquess.”
4). “You couldn’t ask for a man with a sounder moral conscience.”
5). “The man’s only crime is to love you.”
6). “Show me a man that doesn’t smile when his wife admits she’s wrong.”
7). “I’ve always known that women were ruthless but I didn’t think I’d find the proof in my own wife.”
8). “Don’t demean yourself by trying to justify your venom.”
9). “I think we have to show a little more backbone than that.”
10). “You’re my curmudgeon and that makes all the difference.”
11). “You are the only woman I know who likes to think herself cold and selfish and grand.”
I'm pretty certain 5) is Tom talking to Mary about Henry. 7) I see two possibilities: Robert referring to Cora, or Carson referring to Mrs Hughes. 6) may be Violet talking to Robert. 8) and 11) I have a feeling is Edith talking to Mary during their cat fight.
I forgot: 3) has to be someone referring to Bertie, perhaps Robert or Cora.
1) Probably the cameraman guy to either Mrs Patmore or Mrs Hughes.
3) Dunno. But I think there was Downtonian photo leak a few months ago about an English marquess dying. Could it be Lord Hexham?
5) 100% Tom.
6) 100% Violet.
8) Henry, Tom, or Edith.
11) Henry, Tom, or Edith.
Seems 5) is Cora talking to Mary about Henry, while 1) it seems has to do with Mrs Patmore, according to this tumblr post: http://su-o.tumblr.com/post/132633793104/the-weekends-tv-highlights
1) Definitely paparazzo / journalist to Patmore
2) Carson, Violet or Cruikshank - it's basically their mantra in life
3) Edith or Bertie (of any of the servants when the gossip)
4) Baxter about Molseley
5) Cora (as22.214.171.124 said)
6) Violet or Robert
7) Robert (about Cora telling Mary off) OR Carson (about Mrs. Hughes doing something mean to reporters to help out Patmore)
9) Isobel / someone saying it to Thomas about difficulty finding work
10) Cora/ Violet/ Henry to Mary
11) Henry because of the wording "only woman I know who likes to think herself..." I would say Tom but he doesn't tend to stylise things so much, he would probably say "only woman I know who likes to think of herself as a cold..."
My guesses for episode 8 of series 6. Mary will definitely find out about Marigold by either asking her parents, Granny Violet, Tom, find out from a secret coversation or go directly to Edith herself and question her. The agument can be Mary asking Edith why she never told her (Mary) of Marigold's existence or the whole story in the first place which will probably spur Edith to lash out and vent her long time true feelings for Mary by exploding the words: "I KNOW YOU. I KNOW YOU TO BE A NASTY, JEALOUS, SCHEMING BITCH* (sorry for the language but she said it). Mary will probably be extremely shocked and befuddled at what Edith just said and it might change her attitude to treat Editha bit better because after all Mary comitted mistakes too. She had 2 sex scandals weighing upon her past and she was nearly going to have both of them exposed to the public! Also my guess to Bertie and Ediths relationship might be Edith toying between a very difficult decision of telling him the truth about Marigold or never telling him. I'm 98% sure she will tell him because in the finale trailer, she says to Cora that if she stays silent, there's a lie in the heart of the marriage and also she tells Bertie among the lines of I'm not as simple as I used to be, my life is not as simple. As for the Mary and Henry story, she might get back with him or in the christmas special or most probably she'll end up being single but she will stil run the estate along with Tom, and maintain for her son George. Since this episode is an hour and something long, various plotlines will be established and I read somewhere that this will be the episode that the rumoured wedding of Edith's will take place but its a we'll see. We need to wait and watch the episode
I'm going to say that the wedding that takes place today won't be Edith or Mary's, it's most likely Isobel's. Only because the story is about Edith and Mary's lives and Fellowes would want to make give us their fairytale endings as the last warm fuzzy feeling in the Xmas Special.
Also, when Mary and Edith had weddings before, they were wearing real, brilliant white - not cream as Mary is in the promo photos. In fact, it seems that a lot of the women who attended the wedding actuall wore cream like Violet so maybe that's just what was expected of wedding guests back then, wearing cream.
Soo... I was wrong. About literally everything.
So much happened and really, REALLY fast... I thought it was crackers!
What do you think?
