So, I know Michael Gregson is gone and it seems that Edith is being set up to live happily ever after with Bertie, but I can't get away from the nagging feeling that she isn't ending up with her best match.
When Strallan jilted her, I felt bad but not devastated because her family was right - he was a bit dull and, I know love has no age, but he was old and just wanted company. I'm not sure it was love.
With Michael, I felt Edith's unhappiness about being jilted was being made up for. He was right for her because he helped empower her, using her drive and desire to find her place and showing her a place where she could be respected. He helped her see how talented and deserving of happiness she was (where she previously couldn't see it) and, to me, someone who shows you your own hidden strengths, is the making of real love.
Bertie, I'm sorry to say, doesn't seem to be able to do that same as Michael could for Edith and I can't help thinking that out of her 3 suitors, she isn't getting "The Best" in the end. Sure, he would be wonderful for loving Edith with Marigold. You could also say Edith will inspire Bertie like Michael did for her, but Edith was already looking for more and I, personally, don't feel Bertie is.
I know it's a dampner towards the end of the series, but I wonder what you all think about the character that was most suited to Edith?
