I worry about this child I really do. First she's with Edith. Then she's given to a couple in Switzerland. Then she's taken away and deposited with the Drewes. Then she's taken away from them and put in the Downton nursery with her cousins and nanny. And finally, she's to be taken away from Downton and put in a nursery at Brancaster to await Edith's return from honeymoon! Does anyone ever give any thought to the effect this will be having on the child who seems to be being passed from pillar to post at her mother's whim? She will have bonded with Sybbie and George and will miss them dreadfully. She may not have any other children to play with at Brancaster as the previous Marquis didn't have any. I think Edith is being awfully selfish here and it probably would have been better for Marigold to stay at Downton where she has playmates and loving relatives. Besides Edith will be under more scrutiny as the wife of a Marquis and Marigold's illegitimacy may become common knowledge to the detriment of the child as illegitimacy was a real stigma at that time in England. The story about Marigold being a much loved ward would be quickly seen through. And won't she always feel second best to Edith and Bertie's future children who will all have titles and glittering futures? All in all, this was a sad story I thought. Does anyone else feel as I do?
