I hope they do a good epilogue; George being born in the early 20's means he'll almost definitely fight in WW2. Would be nice to see Mary and Edith as old ladies.
Right!

I think it would be far easier for Thomas to have a lover in the house. No worrying about getting caught by random people around town. With the heavy work schedule, it'd be tough to frequently meet someone in the village. At Downton they could catch a moment in a corner, visits at night. It'd be a simple pleasure just to pass by in the house. Plus a bunch of folks at Downton already know about Thomas, and are relatively accepting for the time. It'd be somewhat safer among friends. He thought he could've made a go of things with Jimmy had he swung that way, so he might take another chance if the right guy came along.
Ah, but haven't you learned? Thomas and Edith are the universe's butt-monkeys. If it can screw them over, it's going to screw them over.
Just because that happened in the past doesn't mean it will happen in the future. And besides, this is the last season, so I feel it's more likely things will turn good for them.
Or if it's John and Anna who have a son, I'm not sure what they would name him. How about Christopher? Christopher Robert Bates! They could nickname him Kit.
If either Mary or Edith gets a husband and has a son before season 6 is out, I vote for the name Adam.

I'd like to see another character named Edward on the show, or maybe an Edmund. And no more characters named Charles or Charlie. They've had a lot of those already.
I definitely hope all the characters we love end on good notes at the show's end.

Well it does look like for sure we'll have Carson and Mrs Hughes's wedding. Whether or not there are any more is still up in the open.
An epilogue might be interesting - to see Sybbie, George, and Marigold all serving the war effort in different ways. On the other hand, I like the idea of a big family reunion, with the main family members pondering on what the future may hold, but knowing whatever that will be, they will be ready for it.
I like the idea of an epilogue. I did wonder briefly about them doing one set in the current day or thereabouts (2005-2015) showing the modern aristocracy. They may still live in Downton but it will be open to tourists; they will probably have a house/ flat in either Kensington, Belgravia, Mayfair, St. James etc, as it is in the modern day with aristocracy having very little power. George will be the Lord and will be quite old, and Sybbie might be there too.
However, as this idea might be quite confusing (new characters for George' wife and Sybbie's husband and all the original characters dead) maybe an epilogue 20 years on would be better
Yes, on the subject of a epilogue, I can't help wondering if there was any significance in a curious remark made in Episode 5.01 by Daisy when she said "What will life be like in 1958?"
Was it just a random remark? Or was Julian Fellowes planting a clue about the final scene?
