Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is the third and likely final film. The film was leaked by actress Imelda Staunton as being greenlit[4][5] on a BBC Radio 2 breakfast show starting at 6:30 AM UTC 20-Mar-2024.[6] It was officially announced by Focus Features on May 13th, 2024 with the preliminarily title of Downton Abbey 3.[3] It will be a sequel film to the Downton Abbey: A New Era and presumably the final one in a trilogy (possibly the final chapter in visual adaptations of the franchise). Early sources have filming starting in summer 2024 with a 2025 release (in the late fall, if the pattern persists).
On June 26, 2024, Focus Features announced an expected premiere date of September 12, 2025,[1] but if the pattern holds it may be only the UK premiere date.
On March 27. 2025, a poster was released by Focus Features giving the third film the title Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.[7]
On April 2, 2025, a teaser trailer was revealed at CinemaCon.[8][9]

Filming is expected to start in the summer of 2024.[10] The film is a Carnival Films production, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International distributing.[3] Focus Features have announced that as expected Julian Fellowes will write the script with Simon Curtis directing, as well as Gareth Neame, Fellowes, and Liz Trubridge producing.[3]
During production, it was announced that the film is set to be released in theaters on September 12, 2025.[2]
About the last day of shooting, Joanne Froggatt had the following quote:
"The last day of the shoot was really special. Lots of people came in, Michelle [Dockery] included, who weren't filming on that day, and we just all kind of — it actually was myself and Brendan [Coyle] who shot the final moment of the shoot, which was really special. And everyone was there and kind of, like, cheering on, and we all gave each other hugs, and reflected on those 15 years."[11]
