Forum to discuss the timeline for all three seasons of Downton Abbey.

Design suggestions for timeline[]

Do we want it to go left to right or top to bottom? I suggest top to bottom due to the limited width restrictions on Wikia. If we go top to bottom, do we want most recent at the top or oldest? I have no opinion on this.

Do we want to use a table or just a big bullet list? A table would definitely look nicer, but will become more unwieldy as the timeline grows. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 30 Nov 2012 10:49 AM Pacific

Wikipedia synopsis should be avoided[]

I would very much prefer that the Wikipedia synopses not be used on this page; Wikipedia is not always accurate, and I did not suggest a Timeline page simply for it to be filled with copy/paste from elsewhere. My goal for this timeline is to be as accurate as it is possible to get by working out the details for ourselves from the information provided. --Dragonrider2 (talk) 23:55, November 23, 2012 (UTC)

I agree. I'm not sure at all that Wikipedia makes a good reference/citation. Bluebellanon (talk) 00:02, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

I to agree that WIKIPEDIA is NOT a good reference but the information ON the wikipedia pages comes from ITV.com (the last three snyopsis, namely 3x06, 3x07 and 3x08, are still on ITV.com) so it makes it a valid reference link. See? --HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 00:04, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

No, I don't see. See my comment below. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 29 Nov 2012 8:59 AM Pacific

Just because three of the episodes match the ITV synopsis doesn't mean they're all correct. But at least we agree that Wikipedia is not a good reference. Bluebellanon (talk) 00:15, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

All of the synopsis were, at one point, on the site: they're gone now, all but the last three anyway. --HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 00:20, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

I get that, but we still have no way of knowing if the rest of the synopsis have been copied across correctly. Also, I could be wrong, but I thought the point of this timeline was to try and see exactly how many events we can date JUST from what we see in the show itself. That way we know the information is 100% correct and canon. Bluebellanon (talk) 16:36, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia is NOT a good reference. It is not an original source. Even Wikipedia says it is not a good reference. If you can claim info on Wikipedia that makes it reliable comes on ITV.com, then the reference should point to ITV.com. Just saying that Wikipedia uses ITV.com for it's source is direct evidence that it is not an original source.
