Jimmy Kent[1]is a footman who joins Downton in 1920 alongside O'Brien's nephew Alfred Nugent. Since Alfred is confirmed to be the first footman, replacing Thomas, that means Jimmy will be the second footman, under him. Jimmy is ambitious, vying to be first footman, and is taken under the wing of Thomas.[2] Jimmy is gay. Ivy takes a fancy to him,[3]and so does Thomas. Thomas at one pont walks in on Jimmy (perhaps aroused) when he was shirtless, surprising him.
Jimmy previously worked as footman to the Dowager Lady Anstruther, and has a "natural air of confidence and grace" that Alfred does not have, and "takes the role of first footman, as a natural right, a bone of contention."
Jimmy will be portrayed by actor Ed Speleers.
