Jim Carter (born as James Edward Carter on 19th August 1948; Harrogate, England) is the actor who plays Charles Carson on Downton Abbey.

He starred in the television show Knightfall alongside Downton cast members Tom Cullen and Julian Ovenden.

Behind the Scenes

Jim Carter stated in his earlier interviews that he wanted to see his character Charles Carson, and the housekeeper Elsie Hughes starting a romantic relationship and retiring together in a small cottage.
His real life spouse (since 1983), Imelda Staunton, will be appearing in the Downton Abbey: The Movie as Lady Bagshaw. They previously starred together in Shakespeare in Love.
