Joanne Froggatt (born 23rd August 1980; Littlebeck, England) is an English actress. She plays Anna Bates on Downton Abbey. Her parents are former shop owners who now have a farm in Whitby, and raise rare-breed sheep. Froggatt also appeared in the TV series: Coronation Street, The Bill, A Touch of Frost, Spooks, Life on Mars, and Robin Hood (2009 as Kate). She starred as Mary Ann Cotton in Dark Angel (which also starred Thomas Howes and Alun Armstrong. She will appear in the black comedy feature film "Filth", with James McAvoy, Jamie Bell, and Jim Broadbent.

Joanne Froggatt married James Cannon in October of 2012.
