Lucy Smith is the lady's maid of Maud Bagshaw, whom she travels with to Downton Abbey in 1927 at the same time as King George and Queen Mary.

Lucy is present when Violet Crawley comes to see her mistress shortly after their arrival. Lady Bagshaw introduces her, and Violet tells Lucy she's heard so much about her. Lucy offers to leave, but Violet says "not for me". Violet then turns to Maud and asks about their "chat" later. Maud promises to "have it out" but leaves to attend to the queen. Lucy and Violet exchange looks afterwards.

Lucy develops a mutual attraction with Tom Branson, whom she meets upon her arrival. They share a private conversation later on. Then, he kisses her hand and they dance together privately on a veranda.

Notes

  • In the film's trailer, Violet Crawley appears to refer to Lucy as "a scheming little minx" while observing her talk to Tom. However, it is unconfirmed if she actually is talking about Lucy, as she could instead be referring to Lady Bagshaw (who appears right after Violet's line in the trailer).

Quotes

  • "I have such a feeling that you can understand what's going on in my head." - to Tom Branson
