McCree is butler at Duneagle Castle for Lord Flintshire. Much like Mr. Carson, Mr. Cree displays a stern, restrained exterior, but also exhibits a warm disposition to his fellow domestic staff members.
A Journey to the Highlands
Following traditional convention, he addresses all of the visiting servants from Downton by the surnames of those they serve, as does Wilkins, Lady Flintshire's maid.
He inquires Anna how she and her husband manage at home, having the same surname, to which Anna tells him the family still addresses her by her first name, like when she was a housemaid.
McCree introduces Michael Gregson when he arrives for dinner one night, then is among those in attendance of the Gillies Ball.
Presumably he was fired when Duneagle Castle was sold.

Notes
- Given that Lord Flintshire had to sell Duneagle due to financial losses, it is possible McCree lost his job there. Still, he may also have been taken on by the new owner.
