Lady Shackleton is an old school friend of Violet Crawley.[1]
Violet invites her to Downton in February 1922, and they have luncheon at the Dower House along with Edith Crawley. Violet, having talked with Bill Molesley and knowing his son is still looking for work following the death of his previous employer, has Molesley come over to help, under the impression Lady Shackleton is looking for a new butler.
Unfortunately, Violet's own butlr Spratt fears Molesley is trying to replace him, and sabotages his attempts to impress Lady Shackleton. As a result, she believes Molesley has not been properly trained.
