Lady Rose MacClare (born c. 1902) is the daughter of The Marquess and Marchioness of Flintshire and the great-niece of Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham. In Autumn 1920, she will visit Downton Abbey and stay with Violet.
Her mother's childless cousin, the widowed Lady Rosamund Painswick, takes a great interest in her romantic love life.
There is more to Rose than meets the eye, as a trip to London reveals. She drinks and parties wildly. She is found having an affair with Terence Margadale, who is already married.
In Episode 3.08 Violet says she is eighteen, meaning she was born in or before Autumn 1902; Violet also states that Rose "hates London." which is why she is staying with her.
