What I find ironic is that Thomas has strived for so long to get power in the house, so he could have superiority and could push people around. Now here he is as under-butler, outranking all but a few of the upper servants, but he can't push anyone around at all. John Bates helped him, so that puts him and Anna off limits; Alfred informed the police on him, and could do it again, if he says anything nasty to him or Ivy; Thomas is in love with Jimmy; he is probably afraid of O'Brien; and everyone would come down on him like a ton of bricks if he tried to push around Daisy. I suppose Molesley is still afraid of him, but really, Thomas is just so happy to still have a job that he wouldn't want to risk it by being unlikable. I guess he is just stuck being nice. Abbess.
