Thirsk is a village that is six miles from Downton village[1]
This is where Mr Cox, a Downton supplier, owns a produce store. This is later purchased by Mr. Jos Tufton.
Alfred, Thomas, and Jimmy go there to exchange the dried ginger Tufton had brought to Downton for fresh ginger. Tufton invites Mrs Patmore to the County Fair which is being held in Thirsk. Later, many of the Downton servants and Tom Branson attend this fair.
