The Downton Abbey servants go to the fair in Thirsk in 1921, where they find a flier for a tug-of-war offering prizes. The judge manages the match between the Downton team (consisting of Jimmy Kent, Alfred Nugent, Thomas Barrow, and Tom Branson) and other men at the Thirsk fair, and he accepts a bet of 10 to one from Jimmy .
However, at the last minute Jimmy asks Jos Tufton who is standing nearby to join the Downton team, as he is a Downton supplier. The judge allows this and the hefty Tufton joins the Downton side and anchors the rope. Downton wins, and Jimmy collects his money from a disgruntled loser.
