The Tug-of-War Judge manages the match between Downton and other men at the Thirsk fair, and he accepts a bet of 10 to one from Jimmy Kent. However, at the last minute Jimmy asks Joss Tufton who is standing nearby to join the Downton team, as he is a Downton supplier. The judge allows this and the hefty Joss Tufton joins the Downton side and anchors the rope. Downton wins, and Jimmy collects his money from a disgruntled loser.
